The Section on Urgent Care Medicine (SOUCM) has been actively involved with Quality Improvement (QI) projects. The section applied for a grant to fund a QI project on antibiotic stewardship in urgent care. That project is complete, and the leaders are currently submitting the work for publication. Currently, members of the section are involved in the AAP QI collaborative Better Assessment and Responses to Croup in Kids (BARCK) to improve care for croup. Thanks to the leadership of the SOUCM, participation in this collaborative was open to our membership.
An exciting announcement – during the upcoming AAP national meeting in September in Denver, there will be program day devoted to urgent care, entitled, “Still on the Front Lines: New Challenges in Pediatric Urgent Care” moderated by Jay Santos MD MBA and David Mathison MD MBA. Some of the great urgent care lectures to look forward to: “Could it be Tox? Recognizing toxidromes and symptoms of substance use” by Danae Massengill MD, “Taking Action: Addressing the mental health crisis affecting youth in the pediatric urgent care setting” by Jeanne M. Marconi MD, “What is Old is New Again: Vaccine preventable illnesses and emerging pathogens” by Laura Sass MD FAAP. We look forward to seeing you there.
