AAP Section on Urgent Care is Growing

The AAP SOUCM continues to grow in membership across the pediatrician community.  Many of the members work in urgent care systems (hospital-affiliated or private), and a growing group of members are pediatricians or APPs who work in a primary care setting where they want to learn more about acute care or have hybrid centers where they offer enhanced sick-visits or similar.

The SOUCM has been actively involved in AAP policy to assist or lead in the authorship of several upcoming policy statements including Preparation for Office Emergencies, Acute Care Outside the Medical Home, and Pediatric Readiness in the Urgent Care Center.

SOUCM will be hosting a half-day education session at the NCE in San Diego this Fall as well as a joint program with the Section on Orthopedics, focusing on common orthopedic urgencies and evolving treatment options.  SOUCM intermittently offers webinars to the AAP community on focused topic and would welcome collaboration for these educational sessions.

SOUCM hopes to work closely with SPUC in the years ahead to augment the field of pediatric urgent care, while supporting clinical research, improving standards, educating acute care providers, and developing future leaders.
